I had never had "Egg in a Poke" before. Where you cut the center out of the bread and then crack the egg into the hole and then fry the whole bit together. Apparently I have led a very sheltered life. I know it's just eggs and toast but it is so much fun, especially if you fry the cutouts too and plunk them on top. Somehow it makes it all taste just that little bit better. Maybe I am just a lazy ass cook and that is why I have never had this. Anyway, thanks to the cook.
I LOVE them! My mom used to make them for me all the time when I was growing up and they still make me happy especially if I'm not feeling so hot. It's the small things in life. Annette hasn't had one either so I think that will be tonight's dinner since we had a very wonderful and pricey lunch on the finger lakes this afternoon.
Not sure, truthfully, when I had them or who made them--I just remember having them at least once in my life. I am now inspired to go make them for my lunch today!

One thing is for sure, our Mom never made them. Cooking was not her best thing. If you make them please document the event.
I have heard of them called "Thousand Island Eggs". I just can't imagine eating a thousand of them, at least not in one setting!
We had them all the time as kids too. My parents called them 'one eyed steaks'.
